Interactive Mixing Using a Wii Controller

I completed this work as the project part of my Masters in Digital Music Processing from Queen Mary’s. The majority of the control and processing is carried out by Max4Live using the signals from the accelerometers and buttons in the Wii controller.

I started off wanting to control the gain and pan values from gestures which then grew on to the EQ. Once I managed these I expanded the system to control parameters of compression, reverb phaser and overdrive. The effects could be applied to the selected tracks or to the master track.

The results of this project were published in the 130th AES London Convention. A copy of the paper can be obtained here.
